WHAT ARE BERETS?
A beret is a warm headgear. Berets are designed to cover the head leaving a small space between the scalp and the fabric of the beret of about 2 centimeters. It is secured by an ornate rim or a semi-rigid band. Some variations have an ornamental tassel in the center.
There are several types of berets depending on the country of origin. Below, we will mention the most known:
- The English beret, also known as a Flat Cap, is narrow and flat and has a visor to protect the eyes from the sun. Another very similar is the Duckbill beret, more rounded than the Flat Cap.
- The Irish beret or Hatteras has an even more rounded shape than the previous ones, has more flight at the back, and has a button at the top from which 8 "wedges" of fabric start.
- The Spanish beret is circular and solid in color, with black being the most dominant. The flare of the beret varies depending on the region. The Carlist and Requeté berets are very well known, which often had a tassel.
- The French beret or faluche is similar to the Spanish one, but can be tilted or placed backwards according to the user's preference.
