What is Wonderflex?
Wonderflex ® is a thermoplastic - a type of plastic that can be softened with moderate heat to mould and create sculptural shapes. It is tough, strong and becomes tacky when heated, so it bonds easily to other fabrics and surfaces.

Wonderflex ® has three components:

A smooth white polymer surface, which can be painted.
A polyester mesh, which acts as structural reinforcement.
A heat-activated glue, which makes Wonderflex stick to other surfaces.
This makes it perfect for moulding over hat blocks or other structures.
Wonderflex ® becomes mouldable at temperatures of 70-80 º C

It can be activated with dry or moist heat, so you can use a hairdryer or heat gun, an oven, a microwave or immersion in hot water.
Industrial heat guns are the most popular method, as they allow greater control. However, Wonderflex ® must not be heated with a flame.

After heating, Wonderflex ® will stay soft for about 2-3 minutes before hardening. It can also be reheated and remoulded, so if you are not happy with the shape you have created, just heat it and try again!

Wonderflex ® can easily be cut with scissors or a knife.

It can be stretched, as it keeps an even thickness thanks to its fabric base.

If you are painting Wonderflex ®, we recommend using a primer (such as gesso) or sanding the surface before applying colour, as this material may be left slightly rough in places after shaping.
