What is Abaca Silk?
A blend of silk and abaca fibre, this exquisite fabric is ideal for sculpted work. Its unique sheen and vibrant colour come from the fine silk woven through the banana palm fibres.
Abacá fibre is three times stronger than cotton or silk, and it is extremely durable. This fabric is obtained from the processed stems of the abaca tree (a banana palm). Because it is a natural fibre, it holds colour beautifully.
In millinery, Abaca silk is fine and soft. It can be shaped freely, blocked or used for draping. Because this material is interwoven with silk, it is flexible and creates amazing curves. A hat, fascinator or wide-brim hat made from Abaca silk will always be unique.
