What is Abaca Silk?
A blend of silk and abaca fibre, this exquisite fabric is ideal for sculptural work. Its unique sheen and vibrant colour come from fine silk woven through banana palm fibres.
Abaca fibre is three times stronger than cotton or silk, and is extremely durable. This fabric is made from the processed stems of the abaca tree (a banana palm). Because it is a natural fibre, it holds colour beautifully.
Abaca silk in millinery
It is fine and soft. It can be freely shaped, blocked or draped. Because this material is interwoven with silk, it is flexible and creates amazing curves. A hat, fascinator or wide-brim hat made from abaca silk will always be unique.
