What is Silk Abaca?
A blend of silk and abaca fibre, this exquisite fabric is ideal for sculptural work. Its unique sheen and vibrant colour come from the fine silk woven through banana palm fibres.
Abaca fibre is three times stronger than cotton or silk, and is extremely durable. This fabric is obtained from the processed stems of the abaca tree (a banana palm). Because it is a natural fibre, it holds colour beautifully.
Silk abaca in millinery
It is fine and soft. It can be shaped freely, blocked or used for draping. Because this material is interwoven with silk, it is flexible and creates amazing curves. A hat, fascinator or wide-brim hat made of silk abaca will always be unique.
