HATS FOR BOYS AND HATS FOR GIRLS

HATS FOR BOYS AND HATS FOR GIRLS

Just like adults, children also need to protect their heads from sunlight, heat, and cold. Needless to say, they require products that fit their little heads properly. At Artipistilos, we readily provide all kinds of hats for boys, hats for girls, and other products designed for them.

The youngest members of the household have the right to look elegant and stylish, just like adults. Here we have all kinds of hats but in several small sizes. Panama hats, bowler hats, Fedora hats, cowboy hats, or canotier hats are some examples you can find here.

Although they are hats for children, we do not lower the quality of our products. Here you will find high-quality hats made from quite a variety of materials, such as natural fiber hats, cotton hats, felt hats, or straw hats. The designs do not lag either, with multiple types of prints at your disposal.

And we do not just settle for hats, as we also have caps for boys and caps for girls. We highlight our winter sets, which include a cap, scarf, and other accessories in a single product.

Our earflap hats for boys (akin to Russian ushankas) are also a good choice, as they not only keep the head and ears of the little ones warm but can also be tied under the chin. This is especially useful when kids are romping and jumping about, since they will not fall off with the movement.

The waterproof hats for children are also a good bet on rainy days. Thus, when it drizzles or there is a lot of fog, they can play in the park or in the street without fear of soaking their hair and catching a cold.

Waterproof hats are made or covered with a material that partially or totally prevents the passage of a fluid through its fibers, in these cases, water.

The permeability of a fabric depends on three factors: the porosity and structure of the material, the degree of viscosity of the fluid, and the fluid pressure on the fabric. A permeable fabric should be as non-porous as possible, that is, it should lack empty spaces among its fibers that allow the passage of fluid.

Making the most of waterproof fabrics, they are mostly made with polyester, a synthetic fabric made from petroleum.

WHAT IS A HAT? WHAT KINDS OF HATS ARE THERE?

Hats are accessories used to block sunlight and keep the head cool or warm depending on the material they are made from. Used for centuries by both the common folk and the upper classes (the latter as a status symbol), there is a vast variety of hat types tailored to the social standards of each period and the particular needs of each season.

While there are many very different types of hats, all of them have two main elements: the crown, which is placed on the head, and the brim, located at the base of the crown and which serves to protect the face and neck from the sun and/or to grasp the hat.

Panama hats, for example, are excellent for warm climates, as their wide brim protects the face from the sun. Cloche hats, on the other hand, have a bell shape meaning they have a high, rounded crown and a very short brim, and are more aesthetically pleasing than functional, as they offer little protection to the eyes from the sun.

It’s true that certain hat styles tend to be associated with specific materials (for example, Panama hats with plant fibers), but this is not usually a defining factor in identifying them.

The size and shape of the aforementioned elements can vary greatly, giving rise to different variants of hats. In our online store, you'll find, for example, Panama hats, bowler hats, Fedora hats, cowboy hats, canotier hats, top hats, or derbies… The list goes on!

HOW TO MAKE A HAT?

To make a hat, the first step is to select the material you're going to use and cut or shape it according to the reference block. Then, a special iron is used to define the shape of the hat and, if necessary, stiffen the brim. Finally, all that remains is to add the touch of the outer ribbon or to attach other adornments, such as bows or flowers.

As for repairing a hat, typical repairs involve renewing the inner lining of the crown. This requires carefully removing the old lining, soaking it in solvent, and scrubbing it to remove dirt. Another very simple operation is replacing worn linings, ribbons, and decorations with new ones.

WHAT ARE CAPS?

Caps are a round garment made of fabric or knit and worn to cover, warm, and/or adorn the head. The main characteristic that differentiates caps from other head accessories, such as hats and fascinators, is that they lack a visor or brim, so they do not serve to protect the eyes from sunlight.

Currently, there are a thousand and one types of caps of different sizes, shapes, colors, and designs. However, generally speaking, the most popular is the wool cap, which is often decorated with a pompom on top.

The origin of caps is uncertain, although there is evidence that they began to be used in antiquity. The Egyptians, for example, wore a type of fabric cap called a 'claf'.

In some Persian bas-reliefs, men can be seen wearing a kind of cap tilted forward, similar to the Phrygian cap worn by the Greeks of Asia Minor, west of what is now Turkey.

These Greeks may have adopted the garment from the Persians. However, it should be noted that the Phrygian cap was not very popular, as the custom in cities was to go bareheaded. The ones who did wear it during this time were sailors or shepherds, people who spent a lot of time outdoors.

In Ancient Rome, a similar custom prevailed in the cities, while people who worked outdoors wore a semi-spherical cap that fitted the head, called 'pileus'.
