WHAT ARE LACES?

Laces, also called shoelaces, aglets, cords, drawstrings or strings, are accessories well-known for allowing footwear to be fastened to the foot by tightening the shoe's eyelets over the instep.

However, laces are also used in many other objects. For example, to adjust trousers to the waist, certain coats to the body, capes to the neck, or to close a bag. They can also be placed on hats so you can take them off and let them hang from your neck.

Laces are manufactured in a multitude of materials, such as polyester, nylon, polypropylene, cotton, carbon fiber, jute, metallic threads, etc. The tips of shoelaces are wrapped in metal or heat-fused PVC. These are called aglets and serve to pass more easily through the eyelets of footwear.

Laces are nothing more than smaller versions of ropes (also called hawsers or lines). They have been and continue to be a fundamental tool in construction, navigation, and certain sports. One of the most important inventions in the history of humanity that required the use of ropes is the pulley, created by the Egyptians and Mesopotamians at the beginning of the second millennium BC.

Both ropes and laces are manufactured in a similar way: by twisting two or three sets of fibers in a spiral to increase the strength of the whole.

WHAT IS A HABERDASHERY?

A haberdashery, also known as a notions store, is a shop where sewing, knitting, and craft supplies are sold, as well as certain types of clothing.

Haberdasheries are often small shops located in city centers, suburban neighborhoods, and shopping malls. There you can find all kinds of materials and tools for sewing work and other similar activities.

More specifically, they tend to sell sewing items, textile replacements, fabric decorations, hair ornaments and costume jewelry, tools (such as embroidery, bobbin lace, crochet, cross-stitching...), accessories for clothing, baby clothes, lingerie, and men's underwear.

The Artipistilos team is proud to be your trusted online haberdashery. Do not hesitate to contact us for any queries you may have!
