Elastic bands or elastic cords are extremely useful for creating many types of clothing and accessories, though they are primarily used as elastic waistbands for trousers and dresses.

Whatever you want to use them for, you will find a high-quality product here. Forget about the elastic bands that lose their elasticity after a few washes or break easily. At Artipistilos, we only carry the best.

Here you will find round elastic bands and flat colored elastic bands, as well as a variety of prints and widths ranging from 34 mm to 11.5 cm. You have many options to choose from!

WHAT IS A BUCKLE?

A buckle is a piece that serves as a fastening in accessories like belts, straps, hardware, or webbing. It is commonly used in bags, backpacks, watches, and bracelet jewelry, often as a mere ornament. They are usually metallic, though they can also be made of plastic.

For millennia, buckles have been used in multiple contexts as an alternative to brooches, fibulas, safety pins, or clasps. For example, they have been widely used in military attire for sword sheaths, to adjust armor or to secure a saddle and stirrups. These were made of metal, bone or ivory.

Nowadays, and especially after the invention of the zipper, buckles have been relegated to a fashion accessory, specifically for trouser belts. The main types of buckles used today are as follows:

  • Classic buckle or pin buckle. It has an axle or pin perpendicular to the frame and must pass through the belt at one of the holes depending on the user's size.
  • Automatic buckle. It has an internal mechanism that locks the belt once it has been inserted into the buckle's slot. If the strap is textile and not leather, this mechanism may include serrated teeth to grip the belt more firmly.

Ring buckle. Found on textile strap belts, this buckle consists of two D-shaped rings that, when positioned a certain way, can immobilize the belt.
